Myra (Laneal) Cathey Young, 83, died Friday, August 12th, 2016 at the Waterford Assisted Living Center in Smyrna, TN. She was surrounded by family and friends. Myra had resided in Madisonville, KY for 42 years prior to her move to TN. She was born January 14, 1933 in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Willie May Cathey and Herman Lee Cathey. ...

Mall hosts local special needs adults Wednesday

The Dyersburg Mall hosted local adults with special needs, along with their caretakers, Wednesday. They enjoyed creating goody bags for police officers and firefighters, a cupcake walk, bingo, and more. The local groups were based out of Dyersburg and Trenton.

Community celebration marks Drug Free Week

In celebration of Drug Free Week, Transitions of Dyer County, a rehabilitative ministry for women, partnered with local businesses and non-profit organizations throughout Dyer County in an effort to spread awareness. Kicking off the weeklong schedule of events, Transitions hosted a community celebration, where current and former residents of the organizations delivered their compelling stories of overcoming the odds of addiction and other life-controlling issues. Local resident promotes community awareness toward Alzheimer's

On Sept. 17, the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., located at 1050 Union University Drive at 9:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Funds raised through the ALZ event will go toward the continued care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Historical Society to host public viewing of new museum exhibits

The Dyer County Historical Society will open the Dyer County Museum on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited to visit the museum, which is located inside the Professional Development Center at 305 College St. in downtown Dyersburg. The Society continues to collect and display many books, documents, artifacts and images that relate to the history of Dyer County...

Committee approves Mall Blvd. $1.1M construction plans

The City of Dyersburg Street and Sanitation Committee convened at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 in the upstairs conference room at City Hall. Present at the meeting were committee chairman Mike Morgan, committee members Kevin Chaney and Bill Escue, and Mayor John Holden. Chairman Morgan called the meeting to order.
