Lady Trojans score five straight in comeback win over Covington

After a Lady Charger goal in the 29th minute of the first half, things began to look bleak for Dyersburg on Monday night. But, the Lady Trojans responded with a late goal in the first half then four more in the second half on their way to a 6-4 win over Covington at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

"With all of the things I've been through, it had to be the good Lord keeping me alive," said Dyersburg resident Bobby Hill. "I grew up here in Dyersburg in a Christian home. I got older and got with the wrong crowd of people." Hill said throughout his adult life he was "mean as all get out" and had been in and out of jail for fighting. "I used to treat people badly," said Hill. "I didn't care about them. When I'd get mad, I'd shoot you in a heartbeat. " It wasn't uncommon for Hill to find himself in trouble.

Newbern police officers visit elementary school

Rob Harrison and Patrolwoman April Cochran of the Newbern Police Department made a special visit to Newbern Elementary School where they spoke with pre-K students about items such as bullying, the job function of police officers, and ways in which local law officials work with members of community in an effort to better serve and protect.

DFD performs situational training drills Monday

On Monday, Aug. 29, members of the Dyersburg Fire Department performed situational drills led by instructors Chris Chalk and Bobby Cannon of the Tennessee Fire Service and Code Enforcement Academy (TFACA). All of the drills come from real situations that other firefighters across the country have encountered. DFD will be participating in other training drills throughout the remainder of the week.

1 dead, 3 injured in weekend accident

An accident on Newbern-Roellen Road late Sunday afternoon claimed the life of the driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup, while three passengers were airlifted to Memphis with injuries. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the vehicle being driven by a 17-year-old male juvenile was traveling south on Newbern-Roellen Road at around 5 p.m. ...
