American Legion bake sale to benefit Veterans Luncheon to be held Sept. 2

On Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m., the DMV-Chapter 46, American Legion Post #30, and the VFW Post 1972 will be sponsoring a bake sale at Diane Moore's office, located at 115 W. Benthal bees are the 'bizzness' of the day for residents of Highlands

Recently, The Highlands of Dyersburg Health and Rehabilitation welcomed local beekeeper Eddie Benthal, who spent the morning illustrating to residents the various types of honey bees that can be found within the area, as well as procedures for stealing honey, which is later filtered and bottled for consumption.

The courthouse was trimmed in red, white, and blue. Along the south side of the square, American and Tennessee state flags stood tall. Handmade signs from local students were hung in the storefront windows, and a large American flag hung proudly at the corner of Veterans Square. The air was electric, and the crowd, approximately 5,000 strong, awaited the arrival of then-President of the United States Bill Clinton.

TVA surcharge leaves residents feeling the heat

Many residents in both the city as well as the county, when receiving their electric bills, have questioned the excessive TVA surcharge on their monthly statement. When questioned about the surcharge, Dyersburg Electric System President and CEO Stephen M. Lane responded, "Around 2007 TVA elected to break out the pricing for their generation fuel from the base charges for power. Each TVA distributor was allowed the option to list the Fuel Cost Adder (FCA) as a separate line item or embed the charge into the base. DES elected to show our consumers the TVA fuel price in an effort of transparency. This charge is collected by DES and all other TVA distributors and forwarded to TVA on our power bill each month."

Lady Trojans finish second, four DHS runners medal at meet

Teaching a 'calling' for Durbin

On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings at 7, there is one place you can find Director of Dyersburg City Schools Neel Durbin. He is at Dyersburg High School, along with approximately 35 DHS seniors. Durbin, for three days a week, teaches an AP Human Geography course.

Local walking horse owner to compete for title of World Grand Champion

Recently, local resident Richard Donner, an avid enthusiast of walking horses and proud owner of prize stallion 'He's Shady in Black', claimed the World Championship in the A Division of the Walking Stallions, Five Years & Over, Canter, Riders' Cup, during the 78th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.
