Annie Mae Climer, 78, of Dyersburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. She was a retired nurses aide for Wesley Nursing Home and attended Dyersburg First Assembly of God. Newbern taxpayers to fund relocation of sewer lines at former NAPA location

In the past months, the Newbern Board of Mayor and Aldermen have addressed an issue of high controversy regarding the relocation of city sewer lines at property located at 649 N. Grayson St. (former location of NAPA Auto Parts), which is owned by local businessman Gerald Tidwell.

City school board meets Tuesday; classes not in session Sept. 5, 9

The Dyersburg City School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Central Office. New school board members Carlos Doss, Courtney Patrick, and Matt Tosh will be sworn into office. Workers were busy preparing rides Wednesday afternoon for the upcoming Dyer County Fair. The 69th installment of the Dyer County Fair is set to begin on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5 and run through Saturday, Sept. 10.

Mid-South Riders to host annual Chuck Holland Memorial Blowout

The Mid-South Riders will host the seventh annual Chuck Holland Memorial Blowout this weekend. The event will begin Friday, Sept, 2 at 10 a.m. and run through Sunday, Sept. 4 at Everett Lake, just west of Finley. Originally beginning in 1996, the name of the event started as the Mid-South Riders Blow Out. The name of the event changed in 2010 to honor former director and founding MSR member Chuck Holland. 2010 also began a new tradition for the blowout as it was moved from Independence Day weekend to September.

Love's holds ribbon cutting

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Love's Travel Stop in Dyersburg. Love's General Manager Keith Berry was joined by his staff, Chamber diplomats, Chamber President and CEO Allen Hester, and Mayor John Holden for the ceremony. 'We are excited to be here and be a part of this community by serving our customers with Clean Places and Friendly Faces because that is our motto here at Love's,' said Berry before the ribbon was cut. Located at 3070 Lake Road, the 10,000-square-foot facility is open 24/7 and features Godfather's Pizza and Chester's Chicken restaurants, gourmet coffee, fresh fruit, gift items and more. The location also has 89 truck-parking spaces, five showers, RFID cardless fueling, CAT scales, a Love's Truck Tire Care Center and other driver services. Fishin' for a Mission raises $2,000 to benefit Mission Blitz

The 2nd Annual Fishin' for a Mission Bass Tournament, held at beautiful Fyrne Lake, attracted the attention of an overwhelming amount of local residents. Complete with a family fish fry and live local entertainment from band 'Right Turn', as well as a variety of activities for children and families including a water slide, face painting, kids fish rodeo, and petting zoo.

Cook, Gorman sworn in

Tuesday at 3 p.m., Judge Lee Moore was proud to swear in officer Chris Gorman (above), who will be serving on the Sheriff Department's Drug Task Force, as well as Assistant District Attorney General Drew Cook (below), who will be taking the place of former ADA Jim Horner effective Sept. 1. Cook, who was accompanied to the swearing-in ceremony by wife Jo Beth Cook, is a 2014 graduate of the Nashville School of Law, and presently serves as vice mayor of Tiptonville. Cook's father, Danny Cook, is a former mayor of Tiptonville, and Cook's mother Nanette, is currently the Lake County clerk and master.

Louisiana flood refugees share firsthand account of disaster

Back in August, the lives of countless thousands of Louisiana residents were left in a state of panic and devastation as prolonged rainfall in the southern parts of the state resulted in catastrophic flooding of both businesses and homes throughout Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and all surrounding areas, as well as the death of 13 residents.
