Northview pulls away in third to win Battle of the Choctaws

Despite Northview being favored on Thursday night at Dyer County High School, Three Oaks made the yearly meeting of the two Choctaw middle school programs interesting, staying within four points for much of the first half before Northview's 16-point third quarter propelled them to a 34-14 win.

Coming off a disappointing loss to then No. 10-ranked Haywood last Friday night at Choctaw Stadium, things won't get any easier for Dyer County tonight as the Choctaws travel to Jackson to face the ninth-ranked Northside Indians tonight.

Dyersburg looks to get back on track after first loss

The Trojans, after suffering their first loss last Friday night when they traveled to No. 2-ranked Liberty, will look to get back on the winning track tonight when Dyersburg hosts another team from the Hub City, the South Side Hawks, at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

DCHS band brings home awards from Hickman County contest

DCHS band does it again! Only two weeks ago, the band successfully triumphed at the Crockett County contest, bringing home a total of 5 trophies including First Band-Class Awards and Division Awards including, 2nd Band in Color Guard, Percussion, and Field Commander. On Saturday night, the band was able to bring home even more trophies after the Hickman County competition. The band was awarded trophies for top performance in divisions (Class F) including: Best Guard, Best Soloist, Best Percussion, and the 1st place award.

DHS winds down homecoming week

Ranging from dress-up days to various activities, students, faculty, and staff have been enjoying homecoming festivities this week at Dyersburg High School. Activities that have pitted classes against each other in friendly competition have included tug of war, volleyball, triathlon, and powderpuff football.

Newbern police arrest former corrections employee for marijuana possession

Early Wednesday afternoon, members of the Newbern Police Department arrested 34-year-old Jarrod Duty, a former employee of Northwest Tennessee Corrections, for possession of Schedule II narcotics, with intent to sell.

Crockett County man airlifted after fuel-tank explosion

Late Wednesday afternoon, a 28-year-old Crockett County resident was airlifted to Memphis after sustaining severe burns due to a fuel tank explosion. According to Friendship Mayor and Fire Chief Casey Burnett, local farmer Drew Rice was in the process of making repairs to a service truck at a shop located on Elizabeth Road, when the fuel tank suddenly exploded.
