Lady Choctaws place sixth in Nashville, three medal

The Dyer County Lady Choctaws placed sixth in the Tennessee Classic held at Percy Warner Park in Nashville on Sept. 17. In addition, three members of the Dyer County cross country team medaled in the event. Dyer County medalists were (from left) Anna Claire Lusk (sixth with a time of 20:09), Brian Hendrickson (27th in 17:37) and Kady Beth Leake (13th with a time of 21:05).

Matthew 25:40 to host golf tourney fundraiser

On Oct. 8, Matthew 25:40 will be hosting a 'Golfing for Good' golf tournament fundraiser at The Farms Golf Club, located at 2100 Clubhouse Dr. The outdoor event will feature an array gifts and prize packages for those participating, with all proceeds going towards the benefit of Feed the Need distributions, the Matthew 25:40 food pantry, The Inn Women's Shelter, and Matthew 25:40 client assistance.

City fire, EMS, and Air Evac make practice runs Friday

On Friday, Sept. 23, members from Dyersburg Fire Department, Tennova Dyersburg EMS, and Air Evac Lifeteam gathered together at 9 a.m. to participate in mock practice drills at the Dyer County Fairgrounds. Also assisting in the drills were members of the Dyersburg Police Department.

DPD officers Eskew and Beard honored by state

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Home Security honored Dyersburg Police Officers Pam Eskew and Robert Beard Jr. at the annual First Responder Awards ceremony. The event, which is traditionally held on or near Sept. 11, took place on Monday, Sept. 12 in the Conservation Hall at the Tennessee Residence in Nashville.

Miscues, turnovers prove costly for Choctaws

A quartet of first-half turnovers -- including a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns -- set the tone for the ballgame as the Indians pulled away in the second half before a pair of late touchdowns by Dyer County's second unit trimmed the Choctaw loss to 49-34 at Northside High School in Jackson on Friday night.

Baker crowned DHS Homecoming Queen

On Friday night, during halftime of the Dyersburg -- South Side football game, DHS senior Kacey Baker (far left) was crowned Homecoming Queen. Baker, also the reigning 2016 Fairest of the Fair, was escorted by DJ Swift, and is the daughter of Jinnifer and Chad Baker. Also pictured are maids with escorts, (l-r) Kellsi Parr and Grant Carr, Shelby Hopper and Walton Self, Rachel Finley and Josh Caldwell.
