Chad Davis, CFP®, owner of Davis Wealth Services, was one of 47 participants from Tennessee and five other states to graduate from the 11th annual Tennessee Basic Economic Development Course (TBEDC) on May 11 in Nashville. This week-long course is one of 10 courses offered by the Center for Industrial Services (CIS), an agency of the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service (IPS), and is considered the cornerstone of the Tennessee Certified Economic Developer (TCED) professional certification program. ...

Houston recognized by WestStar Leadership class

Jim Coy Houston (right), an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance in Dyersburg, received the 2017 C. P. Boyd Award on June 20 during the WestStar Leadership Program’s 2017 graduation ceremony. This award recognizes the individual with the most leadership potential, as voted by the current WestStar class. Houston is a member of Rotary, coaches Upward basketball and YMCA soccer, serves as a mentor for the HOSTS Program at Dyersburg Primary School and is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Dyer County. He is pictured with Dr. Charley Deal, executive director of the WestStar Leadership Program. The WestStar Leadership Program, in its 28th year, is organized by the University of Tennessee at Martin and has graduated 799 alumni to date. Yep, hard to believe the high school football drought which began with Dyersburg’s elimination during the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs back on Nov. 18, 2016 is just a little over a month from ending. And, in some ways, it is already ending as the Trojans and Choctaws take the field tomorrow for the beginning of the preseason preparations for the season openers for both teams which come to us on Aug. ...

The Ed Wright Baseball Complex will be busy beginning on Friday as the biggest fields at the complex will be hosting Dixie Boys state tournament action which kicks off that morning at 10 a.m.

Football preseason gets underway this week with 7-on-7s

With the TSSAA’s mandatory dead period coming to an end, things are really going to pick up for local high school sports teams, especially both the Trojan and Choctaw football teams, who get their preseason workouts started this week in Dyersburg and Newbern.

DC’s Gordon has strong showing at Shootout

Coming off a junior campaign which saw him earn District 13-AAA All-District and All-Tournament honors as well as set the tone for the Choctaw offense on Dyer County’s way to the doorstep of the Class AAA State Tournament, Dyer County’s Langdon Gordon continued the momentum from the spring into the summer.
