The Shelter is still near capacity, but has 11 fewer residents this week thanks to rescue groups and adopters. If you are interested in helping rescue groups, call the Shelter and get information on whom to contact. If you can’t adopt, you can donate to a specific animal for veterinary treatment, spaying or neutering or you can donate to a rescue group or to any of the specific funds at the Shelter (see the next to last paragraph of this article to see the specific Shelter funds). ...

Advising and registration open for spring 2018 at DSCC

Registration for spring 2018 classes at Dyersburg State Community College is currently open for all current, new and readmitting students and will last through Jan. 17. Students are encouraged to register for classes as soon as possible to ensure best class selection. Advisors are ready now to meet with students about their educational and career goals. He was born on December 12, 1950, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Clarence Cooper and the late Ludia Hilliard Cooper. Wayne worked in maintenance for Barker's Trailer Park. McIver’s Grant to host Christmas on Sesame Street event

With the holiday season right around the corner, McIver’s Grant Public Library, located in downtown Dyersburg, will host a free, family-friendly ‘Christmas on Sesame Street’ event on Monday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The event will be open for children in 5th grade and under.

Great American Smokeout is going on today

Ready to quit smoking but haven’t decided on when to stop the habit? Today, The Great American Smokeout, an event held annually to promote smoking cessation nationwide, asks smokers across the nation to either take the day to make a plan to quit, or plan in advance and then quit smoking on the day of the event. According to the American Cancer Society, the body of an average smoker experiences drastic changes in health only minutes after putting down the pack.

Super-load semi causes traffic delays on I-155 ramp

Wednesday afternoon, a convoy of Tennessee Highway Patrol officers escorted a traveling super-load semi truck through portions of Lake Road and I-155. For less than a half hour, the I-155 ramp to Missouri near Love’s Travel Store and the right-side lane of I-155 west were both shut down, as law enforcement and TDOT workers provided assistance to the driver. According to TDOT, super-load ‘big rigs’ measure in over 85’-120’ in length, over 12’6”-14’ in width, and roughly 15’ in height. As a safety precaution to fellow travelers, all super-load semi trucks are required to travel with escort.
