Former DCHS teacher loses appeal following termination, new hearing date set

In October of 2017, during a 3-day, 20-hour appeal hearing involving former Dyer County High School teacher-coach Jon Beck, numerous testimonies from school officials were heard by hearing officer, Dale R. Thomas, regarding numerous accounts of insubordination and failure to comply with school policies, including his unauthorized departure from school grounds for a total of 172 days during the 2016-17 school year.

Congressman Kustoff speaks in Newbern

On Wednesday afternoon, Congressman David Kustoff spoke to approximately 30 local residents and elected officials in Newbern at The Farmhouse Restaurant. Kustoff represents Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District, covering much of West Tennessee. During the meeting, arranged by Dyer County Mayor Chris Young, Congressman Kustoff spoke on various topics including tax reform, infrastructure, and the recent government shutdown.

DPD responds to gang activity, apprehends 1 following chase on foot

On Wednesday January 24, at approximately 3 p.m., Dyersburg Police received a complaint of several known gang members loitering in the 600 block of McLean Street, one of which was reportedly waving a rifle around in the group. DPD was advised that the suspect with the rifle was driving a silver 4-door Hyundai car.
