DSCC welcomes fall students at orientation

Dyersburg State Community College hosted new student orientation for new students attending this fall semester Tuesday, August 13 at its Dyersburg campus. Students were given information regarding their classes and the resources available to them for a successful semester. They were also given the opportunity to take a campus tour and talk with faculty and staff. Fall semester classes begin August 26. For more information, visit www.dscc.edu/apply.

Discovery Park members get sneak peek of exhibit, ‘Hot Wheels: Race to Win’

DSCC honors first Dyersburg campus paramedic to RN nursing class

On Aug. 9, Dyersburg State Community College honored its 67th nursing class with a ceremony for 12 graduates in the first-ever Paramedic to Registered Nurse (RN) Fast Track program at the Dyersburg campus. The ceremony took place inside the First Citizens National Bank Auditorium on the Dyersburg campus. A total of 1,806 nursing students have graduated from DSCC over the past 38 years...

Dyersburg School Board holds work session to discuss alternative school policy

The Dyersburg City School Board earlier this week held a work session to discuss Policy 6.319 referring to alternative school programs. As pointed out in the board meeting held in June, a new Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA; code 49-6-3402) enforces school systems to have at least one location for alternative school for grades 7-12, and allows each system to establish an alternative school program for grades 1-6. The board, along with principals and staff members, conversed on the possible options for a grades 1-6 alternative school. Though discussion was held, the board did not take any action concerning the policy.

Choctaws continue rivalry with Crockett County in opener

With the 2019 season kicking off tonight for high school football teams throughout Tennessee, Choctaw football fans won’t have to drive very far to see their team begin their journey through this year’s schedule as Dyer County opens tonight at home against Crockett County.

DPD responds to burglary, seeks public help to identify suspects

On August 21, 2019, at approximately 3:30 a.m. DPD Officers responded to a business at 1325 East Court, regarding an alarm activation. Officers arrived on scene and observed the doors leading into the store had been forced open. Officers entered the store to check for a suspect or suspects and secured the building. The burglars had forced the cash registers open and took an undisclosed amount of cash and assorted brand name cigarettes from the store.
