This week’s Dyersburg High School student spotlight representative is Oscar Sanchez. Oscar is a senior and the son of Olegario Sanchez and Beatriz Gallegos. He was nominated for student spotlight by DHS instructor Suzanne Edwards. ‘Oscar is a conscientious, hardworking student,’ stated Edwards. ‘He is very well-mannered and respectful, and he is always ready to apply himself and learn in class. Thomas George Hamer, 74, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at his residence. Born November 7, 1944, he was the son of the late William Spencer and Nancy Belle Hamer. DCHS FFA hosts Greenhand and Chapter Cookout

On August 20, the Dyer County FFA Chapter hosted their annual Greenhand and Chapter Cookout held at the Dyer County High School Barn. FFA members enrolled in their first agricultural science class came together to enjoy many games and competitions including a frozen T-shirt contest, a scavenger hunt, and a dress-the-goat competition. Afterward, the Outstanding Greenhands were awarded and the entire chapter shared a meal before going on to competing in a balloon-pop game and an obstacle course. This event welcomed the new members to the program, and set an excellent tone for the 2019-2020 school year.

TDH urges providers to report cases of vaping-associated respiratory illness

The Tennessee Department of Health is asking health care providers across the state to report any cases of suspected serious respiratory illness they treat among patients who use electronic cigarettes or other vaping devices. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating a cluster of severe pulmonary disease among people who use e-cigarettes or vape, with more than 150 cases reported to date in 16 states...

Dyersburg woman sentenced to 115 months in prison

Jada Gean, 31, has been sentenced to 115 months imprisonment on federal charges for conspiracy to distribute 26 grams of actual methamphetamine. U.S. Attorney Dunavant announced the sentence today.
