Holice Powell recognized as National ESEA Distinguished School

Holice Powell Elementary School (HPES) has been recognized as a National ESEA Distinguished School. Holice Powell is one of up to 100 schools across the country to be nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2019. Additionally, Holice Powell will be recognized at an upcoming Tennessee State Board of Education meeting.

DC’s Whittle seizing the moment with Choctaws

After spending nearly two decades coaching at the middle school level, Dyer County head coach David Whittle had thoughts of walking away from the game he so dearly loves. Throughout his career preparing those in middle school for the next level, Whittle wore many hats. Not only was he the head coach, he also served as the janitor, did laundry, and everything else necessary for a middle school football coach to do.

Dyersburg splits two games in MLK Tournament action

The Dyersburg boys wrapped up their pre-Thanksgiving schedule on Tuesday evening, bouncing back from their loss to Cordova a day earlier with a 70-63 win over Tipton-Rosemark on the second day of the Martin Luther King Tournament in Memphis at Hamilton High School.

E911 OKs funding for maintenance plan, UPS backup

On Tuesday, November 27, the Dyersburg 911 Board convened at the downtown Newbern Safe Room to discuss agenda items including the Recorder Maintenance Agreement for both PSAPS, Text to 911 services, and the UPS backup [universal power supply].

Choctaws roll in sweep of Lake County

After taking a big lead at the end of the first quarter, the Choctaws used 24-6 performance to end the first half to help put away the Lake County Falcons for an 86-53 win on Monday night at Dyer County High School in Newbern led by Tray Swift's 28-point night.
