On May 16 the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) recognized 8 high schools, including Dyer County High School, for their work as leaders in traffic safety education and awareness. Stone Memorial High School, Cumberland County High School, Dyer County High School, Unicoi County High School, Clay County High School, South Gibson County High School, Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, and Gibson County High School were each awarded the 2021-2022 Gold Traffic Safety Award for completing activities with the Reduce TN Crashes program. ...

Dyersburg man sentenced to 15 Years for possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell or distribute

Jeffery Don Crum, 42, entered a plea of guilty to possession of over 300 grams of methamphetamine with intent to sell or distribute the drug in Dyer County Circuit Court on June 7, 2022.

Dyersburg man sentenced to 45 years for 2 counts of attempted first-degree murder

Robert “Butch” Bevis, Jr., 48, was found guilty of 2 counts of attempted first-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony after a two-day jury trial in Dyer County Circuit Court on March 14, 2022, and March 15, 2022. The court conducted a sentencing hearing on June 7, 2022, at which time Robert “Butch” Bevis, Jr. was sentenced to 35 years on each of the attempted first-degree murder charges and an additional 10 years for the charge of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony which is to be served consecutively. The total effective sentence that must be served by Robert “Butch” Bevis, Jr. is 45 Years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Four arrested for weapon, drug charges following search warrant

After executing a search warrant at an apartment on Wilson Circle on June 8, the Dyersburg Police Department arrested four individuals on various weapon and drug charges. Additionally, the department reportedly seized two firearms, including one reported stolen from Madison County, and over 100 grams of suspected marijuana. Individuals taken into custody were Talisa Green, 30, Latrell Rogers, 23, Donald Wesley, 40, and Victoria Wilkes, 31, all of Dyersburg.
