Dyersburg Breakfast Rotary hosts 2nd Annual cookoff, raises $8,500

RACHEL TOWNSEND rtownsend@stategazette.com On Saturday, June 3rd, the Dyersburg Breakfast Rotary Club welcomed its second event partnering with the Steak Cookoff Association (SCA). The competition was held at the Dyer County Fairgrounds and wrapped up at 5:00 p.m., with awards given for multiple divisions. The event welcomed 27 entries for each of the steak contests and eight entries for the ancillary contest. This year’s competition also hosted a double contest, where teams could enter one or both, with a chance to win each. Prize money was rewarded for both contests.

Tennessee Delta Alliance partners with Dyer County for Sorrell's Chapel cleanup

Harsh temperatures didn't prevent a group of roughly 20 volunteers from cleaning up roadside debris on Sorrell's Chapel Saturday morning. The cleanup effort was orchestrated by the Tennessee Delta Alliance (TDA) and the Dyer County Mayor's Office. Volunteers hit the ditches along roughly a quarter mile of the road, clearing enough debris to fill a utility trailer. Following the cleanup, the group celebrated their accomplishment with Gatorade and cold bottles of water.

TOMS students donate bird houses and feeders to local nursing homes

On May 23, STEM students from Ms. Peggy and Coach Turnbow’s classes delivered bird feeders and bird houses they built with grant money from TVA and Ermco to AHC, Canterberry, and Maple Ridge nursing homes. What a fun way to end the school year!

UT Martin board OKs budget proposal, Taylor Cantrell as student representative
