Some of them are a nuisance, while others are our labor-saving friends. Like you, I have the usual assortment of appliances in my house. Ever had one that only worked when it wanted to? Felt like taking your shotgun out of the closet and blasting away?

NPD conducts elder abuse awareness

June 15, 2023 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. On this day members of the Newbern Police Department spoke to our local TCAT students and senior citizens about Elder Abuse Awareness. Those in attendance were provided information about the elements of elder abuse, resources available, and the investigative process of those cases by Investigator Danny Tippit.

“Pride Week” and freedom of speech become key topics during library board meeting

The McIver’s Grant Public Library Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, June 15, discussed the budget and the separation of the library’s foundation and board. Issues related to free speech, inclusion, and “Pride Week” also surfaced. Prompted by a mention of Pride Week in the library’s calendar, board members say they received both support and criticism from the public.

DCHS’s FFA program introduces kids to “Adventures in Agriculture”

Dyer County High School and their FFA program hosted 20 children between five-to ten-years-old this week and gave them mini-lessons in farming. Program director Brittany Leitherland says they had daily themes—Tuesday, food and crops; Wednesday plants and pigs, and Thursday, cattle and farm machinery.

Local music duo, The Hutcheson Brothers, have churned out their first full album, Behind the Levee, set to release on June 22. The album will feature local favorites including ‘Sip Happens (currently #50 on the Nashville CDX True Indie Chart), a revised version of Mississippi River Town, and She Don’t Know She’s Lonely. New additions will include Searchin’ and an acoustic cover of Kryptonite by Three Doors Down.
