Salvation Army- Serving the community through kindness

Located at 300-318 Market St. in downtown Dyersburg, the Salvation Army is well known for serving those in the community who need food and financial assistance. The Dyer County facility includes a soup kitchen that serves lunch daily Monday through Thursday and a thrift store that supplements their donations to fund programming. Dyer County YMCA promotes healthier lifestyles for community

The Dyer County YMCA came into existence in 1995, beginning with a group of volunteers who started at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. The people who helped get the program off the ground included Joe Porter of St. Mary’s, Katie Winchester, and Albert Fowlkes, who did fundraisers and began programming there. An executive director was hired to begin summer programs and sports camps. The first facility was located in the shopping center next to Save-A-Lot in 1996 and operated there until 2002...
