This week (November 13-17, 2023) is Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) is urging the public to use extreme caution while driving near traffic accidents.

Discovery Park of America’s new permanent exhibit, “Duck, Duck, Goose: Waterfowl of the Mississippi Flyway,” is now open

Significant gifts for the $1.1 million exhibit were made in memory of William A. (Bill) Homra and his son, Allen Homra, both businessmen who had a passion for the sport of duck hunting. Ducks Unlimited, the world’s leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation is a premier sponsor of the exhibit, which was designed and built by the Louisville, Kentucky firm Solid Light. Ducks Unlimited was instrumental in providing direction and content for the entire exhibit.

Hutchison earns FFA American Star in Agribusiness Award

MARTIN, Tenn. – Lainey Hutchison is a sophomore from Gadsden in Crockett County majoring in farm and ranch management at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was an FFA member for all four years of high school, and she is currently a member of the UT Martin rodeo team, where she takes part in breakaway roping, team roping and goat-tying.

Dyersburg City School announces Teachers of the Year

Dyersburg City Schools has announced its Teachers of the Year. An educator was chosen from each school within the system. Recipients for the 2023 year include Jayne Ann Teague (Dyersburg Primary School), Tina Hogue (Dyersburg Intermediate School), Colleen Chatham (Dyersburg Middle School), and Angela Lee (Dyersburg High School).

DES chooses Holice Powell student Gunner Sparks’s t-shirt design and donates to students

Dyersburg Electric System has judged t-shirt designs by Holice Powell Elementary students, chosen the winner, and donated a t-shirt with the design to each student at the school.

Coats of Hope gave coats, hope, and a warm meal

As cooler weather moved into the area, Coats of Hope held their second annual coat and other items give-away to families and individuals in need of warmth and a warm meal. The event, held Saturday, November 11, at the Cornerstone Church of God in Dyersburg, was organized by Hope Smith, along with husband Anthony, and members of the church.
