City, county officials declare April 'Keep America Beautiful and Litter Prevention Month'

Rickie Tidwell and Pat Kilze. Mayor Hill and Mayor Holden signed a proclamation March 15 declaring April 2012 'Keep America Beautiful and Litter Prevention Month'. The proclamation is in recognition of the Great-American Clean-up event scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to noon. DES long-term debt dips

Members of the Dyersburg Electric System Power Board received good news at the organization's regular meeting on Wednesday, March 21. Power Board members learned the local utility's long-term debt is at its lowest level since 1988 after a recent payment to its bond principal and interest. The regular payment of nearly $1 million dropped the system's long-term debt to $6.4 million, DES President and CEO Stephen Lane said after the meeting...

Counties report reduction in landfill waste, more equipment needed

The Crockett-Dyer-Gibson County Regional Solid Waste Board met on Thursday, March 8 at the Ed Jones Agriplex in Trenton. The purpose of the meeting was to approve the regional annual report that is required to be submitted to the state. The tri-county solid waste board was formed in response to a state mandate to reduce waste disposal in landfills by 25 percent. ...

Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt slated for April 7

The annual Main Street Easter Egg Hunt will take place on the lawn of the Dyer County Courthouse at 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 7. An initiative started by County Mayor Richard Hill, the event is now a joint project of Hill's office and the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce. Former Lake County sheriff's deputy arrested

A former Lake County sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged with counts of sexual battery and sexual misconduct, which were allegedly committed against two underage females.
