Relay seeks donations of canned food
(Local News ~ 04/06/12)
For years the Relay for Life luminary team has packed up zip-lock bags of sand to put in the bottom of the luminary bags purchased for the event. The sandbags are used to weigh the bags down so they do not blow over. After Relay for Life, the luminary bags, sandbags, and candles are all picked up and thrown away. This method has worked well for years, but now the event is going green. Relay for Life 2012 will use (soup or veggie size) canned food to weigh down the bags. After the Relay event, the Union Mission will pick up all the canned food and split it between themselves, Matthew 25:40 and the Salvation Army.
