Jewell Sparks Roberts, age 76 of the Walter Hill Community, died Tuesday September 11, 2012. A native of Lake County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Henry Powell and Maibell Coleman Sparks. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wilson and Mack Sparks, and a sister, Lady Sparks Lawson.

My wife loves to visit old cemeteries now and then, and last week she called me from her car and said she and her friend were being swarmed by giant hornets. They were in her Land Rover at the old Zion Cemetery and now were en route at high speed back to Millsfield Highway. The swarming insects finally abandoned their quarry after 6 miles of high-speed pursuit...

Every penny counts! Students raise funds for new library

In an effort to involve the entire community, students in the Dyersburg City School System are being allowed to donate to McIver's Grant Public Library's new building campaign. Thanks to the craftsmanship of two local residents, students at Dyersburg Primary School and Dyersburg Intermediate School now have a place to watch their donations grow...

Lay and Naifeh accepted into West Point Corps of Cadets

Cadets Jackson M. Lay of Dyersburg and Timothy Naifeh of Tiptonville have completed Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
