G.K. Harris dies at 91

The Rev. George Kennard Harris III passed away at his home on Friday, Jan. 11 at the age of 91. A World War II veteran, civil rights leader and father of four, Harris, more commonly known as G.K. Harris, served the Dyersburg community as the pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church from 1952-1994. In addition, Harris was also the pastor of Greenleaf Presbyterian Church in Tipton during the same time and continued to serve that community in a volunteer capacity after his retirement...

Child-endangerment charges dropped against couple

Four felony child-endangerment charges were dropped against a Dyersburg couple after they appeared in Dyer County Circuit Court last month. Btitney Jones, 27, and Charles "Monkey" Russell, 39, were arrested by Dyer County Sheriff's officers in July of 2012 at their residence at 40 Holly Springs Cemetery in the Fowlkes community. ...

City and county schools closed Wednesday

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory yesterday for northwest Tennessee including Dyer County. The advisory has been extended into Tuesday night and will be in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Although an ice storm warning is in effect for much of southwest Tennessee, little ice accumulation is expected for Dyer County. Periods of freezing rain and possibly sleet and snow are expected beginning later this afternoon and into tonight...
