West Court Antiques holds ribbon cutting

The Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 1, at West Court Antiques. The business also held an open house during the event. Community leaders, Chamber representatives, and friends all took part in the festivities which included a tour of the new store and refreshments. Owner Phil Lipford, cut the celebratory ribbon during the event. The store is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-- 5 p.m. and is located at 411 West Court St. in Historic Downtown Dyersburg.

Cable ONE celebrates new location

A Ribbon Cutting and Open House was held at Cable ONE's new location at 1930 Brewer Road in Dyersburg on Sept. 27. Their staff opened its doors to members of the community and Chamber during their open house. Guests at the event were treated to a tour of the newly remodeled location and enjoyed hors d'oeuvres. Community leaders, Chamber representatives, staff and friends were all on hand to participate in the ribbon-cutting event. Dana Woods, Cable ONE, cut the celebratory ribbon at the ceremony. During the event, Cable ONE General Manager Charlie Oakes, presented Mary Claire Hopper, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Tennessee with a check in the amount of $1,000 from an anonymous local Dyersburg company. Cable ONE had offered small-business owners the opportunity to give back to the charity of their choice, just for subscribing to Cable ONE's free business blog, The Wire. All new subscribers were automatically entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes -- a Platinum Prize of $5,000, a Gold Prize of $2,500, or a Silver Prize of $1,000. The winner was a local Dyersburg company who chose to remain anonymous that won the Silver Prize of $1,000. They decided to direct their prize to Habitat for Humanity.

Santa Paws to be held on Saturday

Santa Paws will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Pet Stop, located at 470 Mall Blvd. Santa will be there for photos with children and pets. Photos are only $8.00. While you are at The Pet Stop, meet a selection of shelter cats and kittens offered for adoption.

Library art wall features artists from DPS

County parks and rec committee discusses summer feeding program

Last year the Summer Feeding Program was engaged in a very public conflict with the Dyersburg Housing Authority over where to feed children that live in the Gardner Heights and Hendren Heights Apartments. No primaries for local offices in 2014 elections

The Dyer County Election Commission has announced there will not be any primaries held for local offices in next year's elections. Dyer County Election Administrator Anita Fowlkes stated both the Dyer County Republican and Democratic parties were sent letters asking if they intended to hold primaries for any of the upcoming elections in 2014. ...
