'Chick-Chain' chicks make debut at Dyer County UT/TSU Extension office
(Local News ~ 04/28/16)
Every April, the UT/TSU Extension office houses hundreds of baby chicks in its conference room for the 4-H 'Chick-Chain' program, which provides 4-H students, in the fourth grade and above, the chance to purchase chicks that they will care for until the Dyer County Fair Ag showcase in September. Through the program, students are able to interact with live chickens, through providing their daily care and upkeep. In early September, prior to the opening night of the fair, those chickens selected to be showcased at the fair, will be brought back to the Extension office to be tagged, and will later be awarded ribbons for 'Grand Champion' and 'Reserved Grand Champion'. Pictured above, UT/TSU Extension Agent Tim Campbell is seen holding of two of 500 baby chicks that arrived at the Extension office early Thursday morning. According to Campbell and 4-H Youth Agent Mary Beth Neal, the chick-a-dees will all be purchased in less than one day.
