DES rate increase approved by TVA

Just before 2016 came to a close, TVA reviewed and approved the Dyersburg Electric System’s proposed rate increase request. The DES Power Board passed the increase of 1.41 percent during their regular monthly meeting on Nov. 16, 2016; however, before DES officials could begin enforcement, TVA had the ultimate, final say, as they were to determine whether or not the increase was to be given the green light.

Shooting in Finley leaves woman injured

Saturday morning, at approximately 7:02, the quiet town of Finley was awakened by the sound of gunshots as 76-year-old Richard Ray Guess, of 40 Ash St., reportedly fired an unknown number of shots from a 12-gauge shotgun resulting in the injury of a 69-year-old female.

DHS student scores perfect 36 on ACT

On Dec. 10, 2016, when Dyersburg High School senior Tauseef Nadeem turned in his papers and booklet for the ACT, he was not aware that he was handing in a test containing a perfect score. The test not only held a perfect score, but rather a 36 star (36*), which meant he marked all 215 questions with the correct answer, a first for any DHS student.
