Trojans win 14AA thriller on sudden-death penalty kick

The Trojan soccer team continued its winning ways over the last seven days on Thursday night, but it took a little extra time to get there as Dyersburg won its third straight game – and second straight district battle – 2-1 over Crockett County with a Walton Self sudden-death penalty kick at J.C. Sawyers Stadium.

Rain washes away several local high and middle school games

With the Easter holiday approaching this weekend, local spring sports coaches may be hoping the Easter Bunny brings some dryer weather after making its annual hop through the area as the majority of sports contests on Wednesday and Thursday were wiped clean from the schedule after rain moved into the area on Tuesday night.

The Dyer County School System will have kindergarten registration for every school on Wednesday, April 4 from 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 15, 2018 to attend kindergarten during the 2018-2019 school year. DPD chief speaks to state officials on school safety

Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell was at Capitol Hill testifying in front of several committees on school safety. He spoke about employees carrying in schools and off-duty officers securing schools. Currently, officials and law enforcement from around the state are trying to figure out a way to best secure our schools while creating the best environment for learning. Rep. Sanderson said: ‘School safety is always a challenge. I was proud to see Chief Isbell involved in the conversation. He is one of the best chiefs in the state.’

Hayes sworn in as new assistant DA

On Tuesday afternoon, Judge Lee Moore swore in Andrew Hayes as a new assistant district attorney. Hayes, who served as a child support attorney for the previous 4 years, will primarily serve in Dyersburg and Newbern City Courts. According to District Attorney General Danny Goodman, Jr. Hayes’ official first day will be April 1.

THP responds to rollover on 412

On Friday afternoon shortly before 2 p.m., the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle accident in the eastbound lane of Highway 412. The vehicle involved was a white 1998 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Samantha Tirey, 26, of 201 First Avenue of Dyersburg.
