Less than a month after graduating from Mississippi State and just three days away from the Bulldogs hosting Stanford in NCAA Super Regional action, former Dyer County standout and current State pitcher Trysten Barlow was given an option as to where the next chapter of his life can be written as the former Choctaw hurler was drafted in the 16th Round of the Major League Baseball Draft with the 489th pick by the Colorado Rockies.

DPD names suspect in Wednesday shooting incident

On Wednesday, June 5, Roderick J. Turner, 27, of Dyersburg was taken into custody by Dyersburg Police on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, 5 counts of aggravated assault, and 5 counts of reckless endangerment. Turner was alleged to have fired multiple shots at a vehicle in the 1600 block of Wheeler Street earlier in the day. DPD reported at the time of the shooting a family of 5, including 3 children, was inside the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Dyer County Sheriff’s Office K9 to get donation of body armor

Dyer County Sheriff’s Office K9, Mica, will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Mica’s vest is sponsored by Douglas MacArthur of Clearfield, UT and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Erika Karin MacArthur”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
