Earlier today, March 16, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee urged all Tennessee schools to close "as soon as practically possible." At the latest, Lee said all schools should be closed by Friday and remain closed through March 31.

Some of the views expressed here are controversial. So, do ask your doctor. I hope you have one—not just the HMO or retail clinic “provider.” Don’t panic. That is always good advice. If you, like the world’s economy, operate on just-in-time inventories, and did not take advice to stock up 3 weeks ago, do not join a mob at a big-box store. Somebody there is no doubt infected. Plus, there’s the risk of getting trampled or injured in a fist fight over the last roll of toilet paper. Most of the world survives without that luxury good. If you have no rice or beans or pasta in the pantry, that is more serious, but you should still avoid mobs if at all possible. Take-out and drive-through places are booming.

YMCA of Dyer County limits services, suspends youth sports

Unclaimed funds reoccurring problem for Circuit Court

The State Comptroller’s report for Dyer County continues to show repeat findings for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Dyer County Circuit Court Clerk Tom “TJ” Jones said he routinely encounters the issue of outstanding checks and the need of additional personnel during the state audit. The State Gazette asked the court clerk to comment on the most recent audit findings of unclaimed funds not reported or paid to the state.

Local Dixie Youth, Cal Ripken leagues suspended until April

Matthew Andre' Frey, 66, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at his residence. Matthew was born on January 9, 1954, in Vincennes, IN, to Joyce Harbin Frey and the late Joseph Frey. He worked for 4 years at IPSCO Steel in Blytheville, AR and had also worked at World Color Press for 22 years. Matthew was a graduate of Rivét High School Class of 1972. From 1999-2008, Matthew served as a band dad at Dyersburg High School, which included popping corn and driving truck equipment to band events. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and was an avid blood donor.
