Dyer County COVID-19 update for January 26

With the release of the Tennessee Department of Health’s (TDH) daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, the department reported Dyer County as having a total of 4,885 COVID-19 cases, which consist of confirmed and probable cases. Additionally, the TDH said that Dyer County had 236 active cases with 4,562 recoveries/inactive cases. The total number of deaths due to the virus was listed at 87.

DPD responds to Tuesday night shooting on St. Joseph

On Tuesday evening, January 26 at 10:30 p.m., Dyersburg Police responded to St. Joseph Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle which had been struck by gunfire multiple times, reportedly occupied by a 60-year-old Dyersburg woman and a child.

Murder case bound over to circuit court

On Tuesday, Stephen Heath Coker, 20, of Newbern, appeared before Dyer County Juvenile Court Judge Jason Hudson for a transfer hearing on a first-degree murder charge. As a result of Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Hudson found probable cause to bind the case over to the Dyer County Circuit Court. A date for the trial has yet to be confirmed.

Second dose of COVID-19 vaccines being distributed
