County School Board discuss public comments, the disciplinary board, and 3rd grade successes

The Dyer County School Board met on Tuesday, August 2, 2023, and discussed issues including 3rd grade retention and appeals, public comment policies, and new security measures. All members of the board were present: John David Caldwell, LeAnn Childress, Keith Anderson, Sherrell Armstrong, Chairman Jeremy Gatlin, Tara Gibson, Andrew Grills, Patricia McCreight, Mike McLaughlin, and Steve Dodds. The meeting was also attended by Dyer County Schools Director Cheryl Mathis and other school administrators.

DCS reminds public of weapon-free campus policy following local woman cited with poss. of firearm

Dyersburg police charged a local woman with possession of a weapon on school property after being identified through the screening system implemented by the City Schools this year. Director of Schools Kim Worley said the incident appeared to be an accident and not the result of any intention to do harm.
