Dyersburg falls to Millington in battle of Trojans

Dyersburg took an early lead in its trip to Millington on Friday night but the hosting Trojans answered with six runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to take an 8-5 win over the black and gold.

Brady Byars led off the top of the first by reaching on an error then Alex Page singled before Breyden Turnage followed with a base hit to score a run. Two batters later, a Taylor Dunn groundout led to another Dyersburg's run then a Millington error allowed Seth Daniels to reach safely and score two more to give Dyersburg a 4-0 lead after a half inning.

Dyersburg picked up another run in the top of the second as Jack Shanklin reached on an error then scored on Byars single to push the DHS lead to 5-0 heading into the bottom of the second.

Millington powered its way back into the game two innings later and with two outs. Four walks and two Dyersburg errors led to six runs by Millington Central as the hosting Trojans took a 6-4 lead after four innings.

Millington added two more in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run Gafford single to extend the Millington lead to 8-4 heading into the seventh.

Dyersburg looked to rally in the top of the seventh as Jake Stanley singled then Will Fowlkes drew a walk to lead off the inning. But, Millington retired the next three batters to get out of the jam and pick up the win.

Dyersburg scattered four hits in the loss, all singles.

Logan Cohen took the loss on the mound for Dyersburg, allowing two unearned runs in the loss.

Dyersburg returns to action on Monday when the Trojans host South Gibson in District 13AAA play beginning at 6:30 p.m.
