United Way raises over half-million dollars

The Dyer County United Way recently met to conduct its final board meeting of the 2007-2008 campaign year, announcing a final audited amount of $501,084 raised for organizations that give aid to local residents. Extortion, coercion of witness alleged

A Dyersburg man who attempted to affect the outcome of a criminal case has been charged with extortion and coercion of a witness. Robert J. Mathis, 47, 2162 Meadowview Drive, was arrested Tuesday, June 17, in the district public defender's office. Mathis is the father of Jonathan Larrience Mathis, 220 Lake St. in Ridgely, who was indicted a year ago on a charge of raping a child. Jonathan Mathis had been scheduled for trial July 16 in Dyer County Circuit Court, but the date is likely to change...
