DSCC grad to take over VISTA reins

Dyersburg State Community College recently announced one of its own has been selected by AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America to coordinate the Service Learning Program at the DSCC main campus. 2008 DSCC graduate Shawn Gilbreath of Dyersburg has been appointed to coordinate the Dyersburg campus's VISTA service learning program, a course designed to integrate classroom learning with community service needs. ...

Former teacher placed on diversion for rape

A former teacher accused of improper conduct with a male student didn't wait to be indicted. Tracy Hinson, 38, of Newbern, pleaded nolo contendre, or no contest, to a charge of aggravated statutory rape Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court. Hendren Farm

The Hendren Farm is located three miles west of Dyersburg on Upper Finley Road. Arthur Neal Hendren and his wife, Sarah Ann Warren Hendren, founded the farm in 1881. They raised hay, corn, cotton, hogs, horses and cattle. Their son, James Denton "Dent" Hendren, the eldest of six siblings was next to own the farm.
