Choctaws avenge lone loss in overtime thriller

With the Dyer County boys coming into Tuesday night’s rematch with Ripley in Newbern having lost only once all season which was to the Tigers, the Choctaws looked to gain a measure of revenge as they hosted the purple cats, and it took an extra frame for the orange and white boys to get their win back from Ripley as senior post player Rico Quinton sank a late free throw to give Dyer County a 74-73 overtime win at home.

Dyersburg man killed in New Year’s Day crash near Trimble

Christopher Powell, 29, of Dyersburg died in a one-vehicle accident that occurred about 7 a.m. Monday on State Highway 89 at Boyd Road, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. TDOC taskforce arrests man connected with assault of THP trooper

On Jan. 1 at 8:14 p.m., 25-year-old Terris Tremayne Key was found and arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s TDOC Fugitive Taskforce and is currently being held at the Dyer County Jail.

Tenn. sec. of state presents check to benefit Dyer County Archives

Wednesday at 10 a.m. Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Sen. Ed Jackson, State Rep. Bill Sanderson and Dyer County Mayor Chris Young met with Dyer County archivist Marilyn Holmes for the presentation of a check in the amount of $3,950, which will go toward the benefit of preserving over 300 books of public record.
